I got to see Vienna Teng live many years back and it was also a small venue! Like… just a local bar where the staff tried to scam us (overcharging us for our food). 🥲 Level Up’s time messes me up every time hahaha. Everyone singing along to City Hall… 😭💗 Wish we had that.
I love that he didn't memorize the Shijing but made her memorize it Thank you so much for catching this djckdkdxdp one of those moments that are golden because they’re not overstated.
Did not watch the plagiarism video but… kneejerk ugh at the phenomenon in general. It’s even more irritating when creators that are considered a resource capitalize on the language barrier and draw their insights from internet sources their audience don’t know to look for. But yeah, I definitely prefer a f_w writeup that I can skim!
Tysm for your review on that anthology! I trust your judgement on translationese and short fiction, and I’m a much lazier reader, so I’ll be giving that a pass… I’d try to skim it but I’m just really so lazy these days haha. But I’m pretty dismayed to hear that the translation quality even in that collection are still pretty shaky… I thought the genre + format would attract better and more passionate (ie. well-read in the target format) work. I’m getting curious about Kuang’s writing though—maybe I’ll read Yellowface someday.
