It’s the other way around for me! Knowing the romance endgame was for the purpose of letting them all be family on paper was what made both romances (Li dad & He Ziqiu’s mom; Li Jianjian & Lin Xiao) bearable.
I think the show excels in comedic banter, especially among Li Jianjian’s 2 circles (she and her 2 acquired brothers; she and her 2 acquired sisters). The melodramatic conflicts and show length (too long) get in the way. It also really is my favorite ZXC role + performance, but some scenes were so secondhand embarrassing that even I couldn’t watch them. 😂 So it’s probably good you dropped it early and did not try to persist. 😂
